JOB TITLE:  DIRECTOR OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Reports to:  Superintendent

Term of Employment:  12 Months, 0.5 FTE

Fair Labor Standards Act Classification:   Exempt

Pay based on experience and education (minimum start salary $75,000)

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Teacher’s Certificate recognized by the Missouri Department of Education
  • Masters Degree in School or Athletic Administration
  • Two (2) years teaching experience, and two (2) years head coaching experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES AS DIRECTOR OF ACTIVITIES

  • Determine extra-curricular and athletic activity needs or goals of the district.
  • Develop and administer a program to meet the extra-curricular and athletic activity needs of the district assuring that all local and state requirements are met.
  • Coordinate and confirm with building principals a schedule for all athletic and non-athletic events including, but not limited to, contests, performances, parades, camps, tournaments, practice schedules, open gyms, weight trainings, recognition events, student physical examinations, and fund-raising activities.
  • Supervise and facilitate all aspects of tournaments.
  • Contract and coordinate payment for officials and/or area schools for scheduled games, tournaments, and contests according to MSHSAA guidelines.
  • Schedule and coordinate payment for gate, scorebook, and scoreboard keepers, announcers, and emergency personnel (medical and security).
  • Supervise and/or assist in the preparation, maintenance, and clean-up of district facilities for all extra-curricular activities and athletic events.
  • Coordinate transportation to/from events.
  • Assist Superintendent with development of the annual athletic and activities budgets.
  • Authorize athletic and activities expenditures in accordance with budgetary limitations and district guidelines.
  • Recruit coaches and activity sponsors as needed, and make employment, transfer, promotion, and/or release recommendations to the Superintendent.
  • Establish and maintain criteria for giving awards, and keep records of awards given.
  • Make provisions for teams or groups needing lodging and meals for state tournaments or other activities as needed.
  • Provide adequate storage for materials purchased for the athletic program and extra-curricular activities. Set guidelines to properly maintain athletic supplies and require inventories of coaches.
  • Assume responsibility as liaison between the district and the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA), maintaining compliance with their bylaws, policy, and rules, and completing required reports and communication.
  • Assume responsibility as liaison between the district and the Clarence Cannon Conference, completing required reports, communication, and payment of dues.
  • Assume responsibility as liaison between the district and the Palmyra Athletic Booster Club.
  • Participate in developing the Athletic/Activities Handbook and make it available to coaches and athletes.
  • Coordinate and oversee student athlete drug screening.
  • Be prepared to frequently work irregular and extended hours.

 

EVALUATION OF PERFORMANCE/EMPLOYMENT

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Teacher’s Certificate recognized by the Missouri Department of Education
  • Masters Degree in School Administration
  • Valid Missouri Commercial Drivers License with “S” endorsement.
  • Minimum age requirement of twenty-one (21) years.
  • Maximum age of seventy (70) years unless satisfactorily passing an annual medical and written and driving examination.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES AS DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION

  • Develop and administer a program to meet the transportation requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities; create transportation routes and assign drivers to routes.
  • Supervise daily operations of the Transportation Department.
  • Maintain records and complete required reports to meet all state and federal laws and regulations regarding transportation.
  • Monitor student load limits and bus route lengths in terms of both hours and miles.
  • Coordinate schedules with building principals for special school trips and extra-curricular activities.
  • Supervise and evaluate bus drivers and bus mechanic.
  • Recruit bus drivers and bus mechanic(s) as needed, and make employment, transfer, promotion, and/or release recommendations to the Superintendent.
  • Oversee required drug and alcohol testing of drivers.
  • Coordinate annual training opportunities for bus drivers.
  • Train prospective bus drivers as needed flowing the FMCSA requirements.
  • Oversee maintenance of the district’s fleet of buses including maintenance operation, maintenance of records, and necessary repairs.
  • Assist Superintendent with development of the annual transportation budget.
  • Authorize transportation expenditures in accordance with budgetary limitations and district guidelines.
  • Maintain safety standards to conform to state and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive bus safety.
  • Monitor licensure status of drivers.
  • Serve as a substitute driver necessitating the satisfactory performance of all essential duties/responsibilities of the “Bus Driver.”
  • Maintain an inventory of all transportation department equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinate student matters including schedules, orientations, handbooks, and safety regulations.
  • Support bus drivers to ensure orderly student conduct and discipline on the buses.
  • Monitor weather and road conditions to advise superintendent on decisions involving school closings.
  • Attend School Board meetings and administrative meetings as requested by the Superintendent.
  • Respond to emergencies during regular bus routes and extracurricular activities.
  • Advise Superintendent on developing bid specifications for new bus purchases.
  • Receive and resolve complaints from students, parents, co-workers, and administration.
  • Perform basic computer skills including use of databases and spreadsheets as well as use of cell phones and two-way radios.
  • Perform duties as dictated by law or assigned by the Superintendent.

 

EVALUATION OF PERFORMANCE/EMPLOYMENT

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional staff.

 

Position will be open until filled. The district reserves the right to modify, revise, or split responsibilities based on district needs.
